Leiths start work at Dalwhinnie Quarry

Leiths

Leiths acquired rights to the quarry in 2020 following receipt of planning permission from the Cairngorms National Park Authority which allowed it to be re-opened and extended in size. As the quarry lies within the national park, a requirement was imposed to plant new areas of woodland to help screen the quarry from views. 16,000 trees were planted in December 2021 protected by nearly 3km of new deer fencing.

Another requirement of the planning permission was for an archaeologist to record the remains of an observation post used by 39 Group of the RAF in World War 2 and laterally by the Royal Observer Corps during the Cold War. The post is located on a high point within the site which in time will be quarried.

The quarry is ideally located to supply materials for the planned dualling of the A9 which lies nearby as well as to other construction projects in the area.
