From our limestone quarries located in Fort William, Moray, and Ayrshire, we produce large volumes of agricultural lime. This calcium based lime is spread onto farmers fields on an annual basis to increase the pH value of the soil to facilitate greater yields on grassland and crops. How great the yield increase will be is dependent on the correct amount of lime being spread and the structure of the soil. The lime also enhances the mineral qualities of the soil.
Parkmore Quarry at Dufftown in Moray has been producing agricultural lime for over 100 years. Leiths Parkmore Quarry remains the principal source of agricultural lime for Moray, West Aberdeenshire and East Highlands with the Parkmore name synonymous for a high quality product.
Lugton Lime has a long established history of providing quality agricultural lime throughout the south west of Scotland. Lugton recommenced its agricultural lime production in 2010 and has seen steady growth in this sector year on year.
As well as calcium based lime, we also produce a magnesium lime from our Torrin Quarry located on the Isle of Skye.
