Welcome Stones at Cove and Altens - Cove in Bloom

Leiths

One of the Cove in Bloom Projects was to have three large granite stones placed in a circular fashion at the entrance to Cove from the Coast Road. Leiths, who operate the local Quarry at Blackhills, very kindly donated the stones and the full cost of getting them to site and setting them in place.

Last year the local schoolchildren entered a competition to design logos for the stones, and the three winning designs have been made into plaques commemorating the history of the three main industries that have been a part of the area for generations; Fishing, Quarrying and Farming.

Working with Brian Allan of Cove in Bloom, Leiths pulled out the stops to have the stones, which stand at 7ft tall, in place before Cove in Bloom's entry to the Beautiful Scotland Competition was judged on the 29 July.

Cove in Bloom are grateful for the tremendous advice and support from the staff at Leiths. Also, to Aberdeen City Council for their assistance and granting of permission.
