The Aberdeen in Bloom Garden Award Ceremony took place on Thursday, 26 September 2013 where Hazelwood School won 1st prize in the Category 9 Section and 'Best new Entrant'.  Well done to everyone involved!

Below is the original story:

After the heart-breaking vandalism that destroyed the sensory garden and outdoor classroom at Hazelwood School, Michelle Herd, Charity Manager at Cash for Kids, launched a campaign to have this important facility restored.

Within a day, they were inundated with offers of help and overwhelming support from both the public and local businesses and tradesmen – with over 100 volunteers giving their time to clear, dig and plant up the new garden.  Leiths were happy to donate boulders and stones from their quarry in Cove to help with the project, with Deeside Log Cabins donating and builting the outdoor classroom.

Members of the public also held their own fundraisers to help the school purchase plants, bedding plants, barking, topsoil, benches, paint and brushes to help restore this important garden.

Cash for Kids met twice a week to push to get the garden up and running which was re-opened on 3 June 2013 after just 5 weeks!
