Leiths have recently invested in a Volumetric Concrete Mixer for the Aberdeen area which allows us to batch concrete on site providing customers with the exact amount of concrete required without any wastage.

Construction jobs of all sizes experience standing costs when an initial order for 6m³ of concrete falls short of their requirements and there is the need for a balance of a further 1m³. This results in the workforce waiting for the return load thus incurring part load charges with the delivery and, of course, non productive site costs. Using the volumetric can eliminate these costs given its ability to mix up to 10m³ in any one delivery.

Volumetric mixers are becoming ever more popular, supplying approximately 10% of the ready-mix market in the UK.  Leiths felt that there was a gap in the Aberdeen market for a Volumetric Mixer primarily to service the smaller concrete orders which are usually generated from house extensions, conservatory builds, garage floors etc. However, due to the volumetric having the ability to produce 10m³ of concrete with each delivery at an output rate of 1m³ per minute, it can also tackle larger pours that are currently supplied from our three fixed Concrete Plants in Aberdeen.

The Volumetric Mixer has separate storage bins for the sand, aggregate, cement and water and, once this arrives on site, the materials are mixed to give the customer exactly what’s required.  Fitted with an on-board computer, the volumetric can produce a range of different mixes depending on the customer’s requirements and specification.
